Russell Sign Project

New “Welcome to Russell” Signs Wants Your Input

The Kin Club of Russell is seeking everyone’s input from the Village of Russell (not Russell Township) on two new Welcome to Russell signs they are designing and building. Sign Committee chairs Ash Babber and David Picard emphasized the signs should be reflective of Russell Village’s heritage, personality and character. “That is why we are conducting a very short survey, in English and French, to compile everyone’s wishes for the new signs.”

Residents of the Village of Russell can confirm their thoughts and choices at https://kinclubofrussell.ca/russell-sign for the next two weeks until April 10th. The signs will be placed on Castor St., just by the bike path between Russell and Embrun, and also on Craig St., close to Boundary Road. The Kin Club of Russell will be fundraising for the signs and sponsors will have their names enshrined on a commemorative plaque near the bike path sign location. For donations please contact Doug Anthony at kindoug27@gmail.com or 613-445-6483.

As an added incentive to complete the survey, the Kin Club of Russell will conduct a draw of all entrees and donate a Poutmasters 20th Anniversary Family pass to the lucky draw winner (May 10 – 12th, 2019).

Kin Club of Russell Donates $28,045.58 to Victoria’s Quilts Canada

Following its second successful Catch the Ace lottery, the Kin Club of Russell started to divide the profits amongst its participants with a massive cheque of $28,045.58 to Victoria’s Quilts Canada. Kin Club President Cindy Anthony explained, “We partnered with Victoria’s Quilts Canada, Russell Minor Hockey Association and Cystic Fibrosis Canada for this last session of Catch the Ace lottery”. The Kin Club of Russell reached out and requested partners to join them in selling Catch the Ace tickets, which in turn generated revenue for these organizations.

Victoria Quilts Canada, through the Russell Friends of Victoria’s Quilts, sold over 6,000 tickets on their own to benefit their charity. Victoria’s Quilts Canada provides free of charge handmade quilts and carrying bags for cancer patients to help them through their fight. Over their last 19 years, they have provided close to 70,000 quilts to cancer patients!

Led by the charismatic Marie-Claire Ivanski, her team was aggressively selling Catch the Ace tickets throughout the area. Marie-Claire stated, "Words cannot express my gratitude to everyone that bought Catch the Ace tickets in support of Victoria's Quilts. This incredible amount will help the hard-working busy quilting bees to continue to make comforting loving quilts for cancer patients. I would also like to thank and congratulate the Kin Club of Russell for all the hard work they do for the betterment of our community and thank them for accepting us in the draw".

The Kin Club of Russell are gearing up for their third Catch the Ace lottery and this time tickets will be available for purchase online, along with its regular sales in various locations including Etienne Brule Brewery where the draws will be held every Sunday at 3:15 PM.

Cheque presentations to Russell Minor Hockey Association and Cystic Fibrosis Canada will be forthcoming.

A Night of KINdulgence!

The Kin Club of Russell hosted its KINduglence dance on Saturday night featuring Eddie and the Stingrays and a chocolate theme with chocolate goodies and chocolate martinis. Organizer Tammy Wall and her crew decorated the school auditorium at Russell High School with period and chocolate theme.

Eddie and the Stingrays did a great job again with a full dance floor from their first song to their last encore number. Some chose to wear period clothing and the crowd had fun voting on the best 50s-60s attire. What a band!! This was the seventh dance held by the Kin Club of Russell with Eddie and the Stingrays who celebrate 39 years performing this year. Yet another successful event by the Kin Club.
