Kin Club of Russell Wraps Up for the Year

The Kin Club of Russell finished its last meeting of the year with a bang…another four new members bringing the club to a whopping 48 members. The Kin Club grew from 27 members in October, adding another 21 new members to its ranks to finish off strong for the year as the club prepares for a busy fall.

Fresh from District Convention in Cornwall where the Kin Club of Russell’s Sports Dome project won the service project award for its efforts (now going to compete at the national level for the best service project of the year), the Kin Club has a number of projects slated for the fall;

1.     The Kin Club is continuing its new Catch the Ace lottery draw which started June 17th – tickets are available at Pierre et Fils, Etienne Brule Brewery, Russell Foodland and Pronto;

2.     The Kin Club is hosting its first District convention - the District Fall Leadership Conference in Russell on November 3rd;

3.     The Dr. Darrell Menard Roast (Roasted Doc à le Menard) will take place December 1st at the Embrun Community Centre; and,

4.     The Kin Club is also starting its work on the Welcome to Russell signs for the east and west entrances into Russell.

New Major Project for the Kin Club of Russell

After months of strategic planning and considering input from the public, Township and businesses, the Kin Club of Russell voted in its next major project – Welcome to Russell signs. It a very close vote, the sign project was selected over four other projects including a walkway and walking bridge over the Castor River; a community garden; a new pool/arena complex; and a community van.

The two Welcome to Russell signs will be similar to those already in existence in Embrun, complete with stone work, signage, shrubbery, etc. They are proposed for the Boundary Road/Craig St. entrance as well as the corner of Castor/Eadie Roads. Construction of both signs are estimated between $60,000.00 - $80,000.00.

The new project is expected to be completed within a year, at which time the club will commence its next major project. Although the recent survey completed by the club showed the majority of residents wanted a new pool complex, the Kin Club members felt they need a bit of a breather and easier project after the Sports Dome project.
